Fathers - Wrestling with Your Angel (Pt. 3)
Every man will face a moment of decision. It is at that moment that each man finds out what it means to be a man. Each man’s life is filled with the calling to lead. However, no man can escape the battles that come with leadership. The responsibility of leadership is unavoidable for men. Only the man represents the “image and glory of God.” This role alone comes with greater responsibility than most men understand or will ever come to realize. Paul clarifies this for all men by revealing the additional part of this revelation. The woman is the glory of the man. (1 Cor. 11:7) She does not have to represent what she is already is. God made man in His image and His likeness. The Bible confirms that this creation was male and female. Thus, the woman is the glory of the man because God fashioned her to fulfill him, to complete him.
The most significant responsibility that every man has in this life is covering his wife and fathering his children. If every kingdom requires a king, then every family needs a man. God knew this from the beginning. So God put the man in the boy. He put the husband in the man. He then put the father in the husband. Every man must commit to this truth. Why is this required? It is necessary because, in every husband, there is a family. No man is exempt from this responsibility, and this battle requires much.
Dr. Myles Munroe, in his book entitled “Quotes from the Spirit of Leadership,” makes this statement:
“Your beliefs are a product of your thoughts, your thoughts create your beliefs, your beliefs create your convictions, your convictions create your attitude, your attitude controls your perception, and your perception dictates your behavior.”
Is it possible that this present culture has and continues to birth men without convictions? If this is so, then men’s beliefs and attitudes are simply a reflection of his culture. Men are wrestling more today than ever before. Research confirms that men wrestle with their identity. As a result, they struggle with their purpose. God hid the purpose for every created thing in its identity. If you change the purpose for the created thing, you must also alter its identity! Men are wrestling with their angels in hopes that they will find the answers so desperately needed. This simple truth requires revelation because every man must wrestle with God and His purpose and plan for each life. Remember that while men are wrestling their families are vulnerable. The outcome must be different! May men today realize this reality and find the convictions necessary to impact the future of manhood, masculinity, and the family.
