Fathers - Wrestling with Your Angel (Pt. 7)

This is the first day of the rest of your life. Live each day as if it’s your last. Life is short. Popular phrases like these are designed to motivate people to maximize their days on Earth.

Most people understand the reality of finite time, but their perceptions of it—and their response to the reality—will differ for each person. Some travel the world. Others buy all the toys and gadgets they want. They know they have limited time to enjoy their life, so they want to capitalize on the pleasures of the moment.
— Arrow Striker, by Jonathan Hardy, pg.39.

How many men live their lives for the pleasure of the moment? How many sons grow up with no understanding of who they are? Too many men live their lives without realizing the treasures that they already have. A man’s treasure has always been his family. Men somehow work and run after things that don’t matter. For example, one of the most extraordinary responsibilities of fathers is to raise Godly children. Even more important is the role of fathers to be Godly examples to their sons. I remind every man reading this blog to realize that their sons will become men someday. In every boy is a man! This has always been the will of God from the beginning.

Take a moment and reflect on your own journey. Remember the ups and downs of life. Don’t forget the trials or the struggles that you went through along the way. Remind yourself of some of the questions you raised or the doubts you had to fight through. Somehow you made it to the place of a husband and a father. Whether you are one in the natural realm, you are always one in the spirit. Fathers were created to impart manhood to their sons. This is wrestling with an angel. But I must remind every man reading this blog that you are not wrestling alone. May God open your eyes to see that you are also wrestling for your sons. Every boy must learn the lessons that come with manhood. No boy, no man is exempt.

Have you ever taken the time to ponder the frustration that sons endure when they have never had a father? Maybe you are one of those sons who grew up without a father in your life. In short, you grew up without a covering. Not only was there no man, no father in your life to cover you—to train you—to impart the God-ordained purpose for your life. But I pray that God exposed you to godly men in the church or along your life’s journey. I want to remind you that there are still men who need the covering of another man, and more specifically, a father. There is no substitute for fathers. If you are a man who has no covering, I encourage you to seek a spiritual father. May the angel you wrestle with replace the father you never had. Praise The Lord!
